CISPA Probably Won’t Be Introduced In the Senate

According to the folks at MASHABLE, cyber space, government intelligence and international and domestic intrigue vis a vis the internet and what goes on between people’s keyboards in their networked relationships and other vital packs of information exchanges through the online data river we call cyber space will not be looked at by the Senate as originally expected.

“The House of Representative’s version of the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, probably won’t be taken up in its entirety by the Senate, according to a new report. CISPA passed the House last week with bipartisan support despite a veto threat from …”

Internet governance: In praise of chaos | The Economist

FOR something so central to the modern world, the internet is shambolically governed. It is run by a hotch-potch of organisations with three- to five-letter acronyms. Many of their meetings, both online and offline, are open to the public. Some—like the Internet Governance Forum, which held its annual meeting in Nairobi this week—are just talking shops. Decision-making is slow and often …

Julian Assange, in a Gilded British Cage – NYTimes.com

The man in the rubber boots and a thick coat to protect against the evening chill walked purposefully about a farm here, scattering pheasants as he went. He could have been an English gentleman out for a bit of hunting, except he carried no gun.

In his current circumstance, the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is more hunted than hunter, fighting extradition to Sweden on accusations of sexual misconduct while struggling to maintain the influence of WikiLeaks even as he remains here at Ellingham Hall, the country manor house of …

WikiLeaks: Swept up and away | The Economist

The release of all the leaked embassy cables marks both the end of WikiLeaks and the beginning of an era

IF CYBERSPACE had air, it would be thick with recriminations. Thanks to a series of slips compounded by warring whistle-blowing egos, an entire trove of 251,000 purloined American diplomatic cables has been published online. The result may be fatal for WikiLeaks, as well as embarrassingly revealing governments’ misdeeds, mishaps, evasions and cover-ups. One cable has allegations that American troops executed an Iraqi family, including five small children …
