Ben Smith, The Boy Wonder of Buzzfeed – NYTimes.com

It is an important moment in media when we can pause and imagine that the Walter Cronkite moment has passed since Mr. Cronkite’s reign as “The Most Trusted Man in America” from 1962 to 1980 (look it up in Wikipedia, of course).

Media has changed and, along with Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14, 1984) “an American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur” (Wikipedia, again!) there is a new buzz and media elite that will not play the same role in our information needy lives but will transform how we see the world around us nevertheless…

These new media movers and shakers are turning all that internet media buzz into real influence and Brink Trucks full of money.  The world is changing, the www world that is, while we stand on the ground and in the other world which now seems as anachronistic as Cronkite and as one dimensional as the old TV world of NBC, ABC and CBS…

Ironically, this new “younger world” of media pundits and moguls is not as easy to keep up with as the wave of technology and internet use changes as fast as the millionaires who lead it, Zuckerberg just moved into second place in the “whole world” (WWW and the one we stand on).

Beneficiary: Silicon Valley Community Foundation

Background: Mr. Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook, and Dr. Chan is a pediatrician.

Mark Zuckerberg, 28, and Priscilla Chan, 27, gave 18 million shares of Facebook stock, valued at about $498.8-million, to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support education and health programs.

This is the young billionaire’s second large donation. In 2010, he pledged $100-million to establish Startup: Education, a foundation to support programs working to improve public schools in Newark, N.J.

“BenSmithing is now an official term!” shouted Michael Hastings, a BuzzFeed reporter and author, at his book release party in Chelsea on a subfreezing night in January. The roomful of young reporters, ad salesmen and b-list political gadflies (Meghan McCain turned heads all night) hooted in

Facebook Is Using You – NYTimes.com

How to Time Your Facebook Posts to Reach the Most Fans

I get asked all the time, “How frequently should I post on my Facebook page? When is the best time to post?”

Answer: Post whenever the most recent status update for your page stops showing up in your fans’ News Feeds.

If you post often, you will see an immediate spike in News Feed impressions, but it’s generally not worth the cost in lost fans. When your fans see two status updates from you in their News Feeds, they’ll likely get annoyed, and will consequently unsubscribe or un-fan. There are few exceptions to this rule.

Al Jazeera’s Social Revolution (In Realtime)

Although most are still shaking their heads in wonder, TECH CRUNCH does a nice job of explaining how SOCIAL MEDIA is transforming how the global village communicates… Al Jazeera’s Social Revolution (In Realtime)

While you can debate about the exact role of social media, specifically Twitter and Facebook, in Egypt’s revolution, there is no question about its role as a new global media channel. Where once people tuned into CNN to watch governments collapse, this time around they tuned into Al Jazeera on the Web (at least in English speaking countries lie the U.S. where Al Jazeera English is not widely carried on cable systems).
