Middle Eastern countries have long been ruled by Monarchs and Dictators… The following variables seem to be having the greatest influence on events on the ground as a wave of civic disobedince, civic engagement and general social change sweeps over the area:
Increasing Media Sources: Both in the West and throughout the world, the number of media sources have been on the increase. This first happened in a big way when the traditional TV networks lost their near monopoly to the cable media explosion. The Internet was the next big bang and we have never been the same since.
Social Media: The internet was significant devlepment for media dissemination; but when the more interactive and real time Internet 2.0 began to connect people and agendas like never before. It is now a general consensus that Facebook and Twitter played a key role in the events in Egypt…
What do you think?
What else would you add?
